The party is registered!

The long-awaited news has finally arrived, the Pirate Party UK is now officially registered as a political party! This means we can raise funds, have Pirate Party Candidates at the next general election, and do all the other things that political parties do. Getting to this stage has been a long process, we've had to elect officers, raise funds, fill out forms, meet with some (very helpful) people at the Electoral Commission, and learn far more about electoral law and the special party funding rules that apply to Gibraltar than any same person would ever want to.

Andrew Robinson, Party Leader and Eric Priezkalns, Party Treasurer at the Electoral Commission offices in Westminster.

Now the party can really start. It's time for us to tell the world that we exist, to recruit members, raise funds and gear up to fight the General Election. The officers and web team have built the framework that the party needs to get going, now it's time for YOU to make things happen. Join the party, tell the media about the party, tell your friends about the party, take part in policy and news debates on the forum, join our Facebook group, donate or set up a regular payment to provide financial support, set up a branch in your constituency, school or workplace, join the specialist workings groups for members with key skills like lawyers and journalists and volunteer to take part in canvassing and campaigning in your constituency at the general election...

The success of  Britain's newest party depends on you, the members!

Congratulations on becoming OFFICIAL here in the UK. If there was another way of becoming a member of the Pirate Party, I would do so. However, I do not give card or bank details on the internet. Is there any other way that I could become a "Pirate", without giving these details online?

Congrats! I'm glad to see a political party that's pro-copyright reform, but I'm still keen to see some more detailed policies about alternatives to the existing copyright framework in the UK. It's all well and good to throw around "legalise non-commercial file sharing" as a blanket statement, but I feel that artists deserve compensation and recognition for their efforts. There's got to be a way that gives artists and consumers a fairer deal than record and movie companies are currently providing, without completely scrapping existing copyright laws (which, for all their flaws, do allow excellent copyleft efforts like Creative Commons to provide a flexible framework for releasing and remixing material without an artist giving up all their rights). I'm looking forward to seeing how the Pirate Party proceeds in these next few weeks and months, and I hope more specific information will become available in the near future, about how the Party's goals and how it plans to achieve them.

Fantastic, you need to get the message out there because this party isn't that well known!

I also think that Pirate Party Uk should look into the British TV Licensing Fee. It's unfair that people are harrassed into buying a TV license when the license pays for only BBC channels. To add insult to injury there's discussion about the license fee being extended. Many other countries don't pay for a license. I don't think it's fair also that customers are put off watching other channels because of the BBC licensing fee... I strongly think this is something that Pirate Bay should look at.
