Your Approval for New Positions of Trust
22nd November 2009 18:01 | by Eric Priezkalns
Members of the Pirate Party UK, we would like your approval to appoint people to new positions of trust. Why do we seek your approval? Because we are a party that aspires to be both democratic and transparent. Why then are these positions not up for election? Because they are not really the right sort of position - these are jobs where we need skilled and trusted individuals who have already been vetted to ensure they are up to the challenge and are there to support the administration of the party. The exec committee has identified four appointments they would like to make:
- Tom Lilley for Head of the Web Team
- Peter Liddell for Deputy Treasurer (Members & Donations)
- John Prescott for Deputy Treasurer (Costs & Budgets)
- Eric Priezkalns - that's me - for Election Overseer
In the end, it is the decision of the members, and you can vote to ratify or reject the appointments. The four votes can be found at http://www.pirateparty.org.uk/vote/ and the votes will run to Sunday 29th November. You will see a brief explanation of each role when following the link for each individual ratification vote.
Once we have completed this vote, and are happy that the voting system has worked without any glitches, then comes the first real internal election to be decided by members - the vote for a new Nominating Officer and the vote for my replacement as Treasurer. We have a couple of candidates for Nominating Officer - John Barron and Jeremy Morton - but none yet for Treasurer. If you are a member, and want to stand for either position, please let me know. Better still, let everyone know by posting to the forums. A brief introduction and explanation of why you think you would be suited to the job will make it easier for the members to decide who is best for the job, as well as creating an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates.
*Updated*
Three of the nominees have posted biographies to the forum.

Indeed, glambert. A little biography/autobiography would really help.
Agreed, could we please have a small bio for each person. It's impossible to vote for someone based on just a name, we need a little more info.
Cheers!
I agree you won't vote for a person you just know. Or by just looking at their name. It still the track record, family and personal background and their willingness to serve. Maybe publish a research paper about them.

A description of who these people are would be useful :)
