Pirate Party now biggest on Facebook
21st September 2009 17:14 | by Philip Hunt
Further to my previous article, "Pirate Party surpasses Labour Party on Facebook", the Pirate Party is now the largest UK political party in terms of the size of its Facebook group.
This is because of two developments: we're continuing to grow, having reached 7000 members on 19th of September, and the largest BNP group has diappeared (there are various BNP groups on Facebook; the current largest has 3715 members).
PPUK continues to grow on Facebook at a rate of about 70 people a day. Most of this is probably people joining based on the recommendations of their friends who have joined; to the extent to which this is true, the Facebook group will grow exponentially until all British people on Facebook know at least one person who has joined it.
Of course, membership of a Facebook group isn't the same as membership of a political party; and part of our task over the next few months must be to convert Facebook members into party members.

meh, my dodgy links.
should have been 500'000 people and ill name my son batman & obama links. Unsubtly highlighting groups people join and instantly forget vs serious politican tools that get people elected.

we need to do facebook properly. in my opinion, without it we have little or no chance of making a big impact on the surface of british politics. We need a team controlling it who can continuously monitor and expand this group. If theres one thing we need to do, its tie a huge facebook membership together and organise our events through facebook.
add popular merchandising to it, and we will make money for campaigning & standing in the elections.
