Meet our 500th Member
28th September 2009 06:00 | by Eric Priezkalns
The Pirate Party UK recently passed the 500-member mark. Our 500th member is Hakim Akayour, a motorcycle enthusiast from Hertfordshire. We asked Hakim why he supports the Pirate Party, and this is what he told us.
“I love my motorbike. For me, it means freedom. I've ridden my bike all over - all around Europe and down to North Africa too. It makes me worried that there's politicians who would even think of putting chips into every bike and car and monitoring our every move. l know the government will try and brand it as a method to stop people driving on the road without road tax, but once the system is in and it's too late to stop them they can start using it for a magnitude of other things.
We need to stop them from even getting their foot in the door, as once in we can kiss goodbye to our freedom of the open road. I joined the Pirate Party because they're the one party that sound serious about protecting our freedom. We know technology can be used for good or bad. The Pirates look like they understand the real threat - technology used to spy on us whatever we do."

Supporters like Hakim show how broad the appeal of the Pirate Party is. The Pirate Party is prioritizing issues that many ordinary people feel very strongly about – but which the other parties will overlook to accommodate the control freaks within their own ranks.
It is an incredible achievement to recruit the first 500 members in just six weeks. Incredible though it is, we need to keep growing to get more attention and more votes at the next general election. We do not want the next government thinking that the British public does not care about the topics like surveillance, and we cannot afford to wait another five years before we make our voice is heard. Help us by ensuring your friends know that the Pirate Party cares about topics of vital importance for a changing world, topics that other parties do not talk about, and topics that go beyond the one subject the mainstream media will let us talk about – filesharing. Tell your friends about Pirate policies that will really matter to them: cheap medicines for our hospitals and the developing world; liberating universities and cutting the costs of study through open access distribution of academic works; stopping the creeping privatization of our national and public heritage; and preventing the rise of the 24/7 surveillance society. Tell your friends about all the reasons they should join us. With your help it will not be long before we welcome our 1000th member!

Nicely said Hakim!
The PP isn't about getting us free music, it's got much more to it, that's the type of message we need to get out.

i would have thought it unlikely that any pirate would have a picture of himself taken outside a basement style surrounding, lol.
Joking aside, bravo to Hakim.
