ORGCON -- will you be there?

21st July 2010 16:57 | by Peter Brett

The Open Rights Group, a UK lobbying organisation that has similar aims to those of the Pirate Party, is holding its conference in London this coming Saturday, the 24th July. We've been given a slot at the end of the day, in which I'm going to be giving a short talkand Q&A about why ORG supportrs should also support the Pirate Party. However, I'm going to need some help during the day to hand out flyers and persuade people that they should come along to our session instead of going straght to the pub -- because I'm sure that going to the pub will be very tempting after a long hard day at a conference! If you're going to be at ORGCON this coming weekend and can give me a hand, please get in touch with me ASAP.

I wish I could but I've got work.

Well I've signed up. We have the new leaflets, won't need the old ones yes?

Is our peterbrett speaking after all? TBH my strategy will be speaking with the less beardy more piraty attendees about us.

What I missed when the DEB protest was on, I think it would be good if andrewtindell, peterbrett and m2ys4u and myself had some private discussions (over drinks maybe?) after.

Also I bought an 'existing supporter' £5 ticket, I hope I qualify.

I have my ticket; I also still have a stack of the old leaflets and some of the lapel pins; I'm not sure we have enough, but we could try giving some of those out (possibly an idea for the future). I will also bring all my stuff on the DEA etc. and am currently working on a blog post giving details of what is actually involves (I'm getting fed up of all the misinformation going around that Ofcom still doesn't seem to be countering) - not sure how long it will be or take.

1) Yes, I'll be speaking. It says that in the blog post!

2) Am I more or less beardy?

3) Are you a member of ORG? Then you can use an "existing supporter" ticket. Otherwise you need to pay full price. I suspect borgs8472 may have the wrong ticket.

4) We're going to the ORG pub meet afterwards, where we will continue to attempt to recruit new supporters. No rest for the wicked!

Does anyone who's coming along have a video camera?

my understanding is ORG will be filming sessions and putting them online afterwards, if not streaming.

Yes, but I don't know if that applies to fringe sessions, and I've also got some ideas for short videos to record for our YouTube channel.

Can I please ask anyone who's coming on Saturday to wear a PPUK t-shirt if you have one?

You all look so enthusiastic! Peter Brett, I regretably missed your talk as I had to dash to get my train back to the Wales! I hope it went well for you. I noticed Cory Doctorow stole your quote about the increasing complexity of publishing music over the centuries! How did the presentation fare?

Yes, that was quite widely stolen. :-D

A lot of people left, and it started late due to the thing before running over, so I felt it was a bit meh. :|

I really didn't want to leave...I would have stayed if the ACTA talk hadn't overrun :( Will it be online for my viewing entertainment?
