Results of voting on constitutional amendments

13th March 2011 18:00 | by Will Tovey

Two weeks ago saw not only our first conference, but also the opening of voting on 36 questions to make 69 amendments to our constitution. Voting closed yesterday and the results are now available.

All amendments were passed and the Board would like to thank all members who participated in this process by commenting and/or voting on amendments.

The Board have already highlited several amendments which still need work, but hopefully the volume of changes will never be quite so large as this time around.

The new constitution causes a variety of immediate consequences, especially related to those holding both a Governor position and an NEC position. With the new amendments coming into force Board dispensation is required to hold such dual positions. As Peter Brett has signalled the potential for steping down soon from the NEC the Board would like to extend such dispensation to allow him to step down after May elections without forfeiting his Governor position. As Loz intends to remain leader, no such dispensation is being extended to him and as such he is choosing to surrender his Governor position.

The Board also note that one of their number, Lucas Abedecian has been out of touch (despite a number of attempts to get hold of him) for significantly more than 28 days, and as such, via the 28 day awol rule, he is hereby relieved of his titles and responsibilities as Governor and South West RAO.

With Board positions now vacant, new clause 10.16 requires that elections open within 30 days. As per 10.4 it is for the NEC to open Nominations so the Board will be in touch with them, requesting that they do so.

The breakdown of results per question/vote is as follows:

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but on that page (and all the blog pages I think) there is a link to "Listen to the Podcast". Clicking it gives me this message: "Pirate Podcast has left the building..."

Web team: Is this a temporary thing? If a podcast is going to start, then keep it for the moment, otherwise it's probably not a good idea to have a dead link on the page

For anyone interested, the current constitution can be found here. Please let me (or the Board) know if there's anything wrong with it, either concepts, or the text.

I raised this with Leonard and the NEC a few days ago amongst other things that needed to be changed.

Pirate Podcast was set up by Eric P last year prior to the General Election and prior to him leaving the party. Eric took down the podcast after leaving.

It should be noted the clause numbers referenced in this post (10.16 and 10.4) relate to the clauses as numbered in the voting questions. With a slight renumbering (there is no 10.2* - me culpa!) the references should now be 10.15 and 10.3 respectively.

* 10.2 was a clause relating to votes that used a FPTP system. This existed during the discussion phases and as there were no votes that we wanted to be using FPTP, it was removed prior to voting.

Yes indeed, I now surrender my governor position.

I am very pleased that we have a much stronger and more detailed constitution, a vital part of us establishing ourselves seriously. As I said at conference, it is one of the ends of the beginning, as it were.
Thank you for the participation and the great work on drawing this up.
