The Peace in the Park festival

The Peace in the Park festival promotes peace and understanding by bringing together communities through artistic, musical and vocal expression. Peace in the Park is organised by a group of artists, musicians, students, events organisers and other everyday Sheffield folk, working together in a not for profit collective.

We have a stall and table booked, Andy has an awning on it's way and a number of ideas from members locally and nationally, we also have a number of volunteers who are willing to come down and help out.

So, if you want to get involved, either leave a comment in one of the relevant forum threads, or drop Andy an email.

Location: Sheffield,

Start time: Sat 04 Jun 2011, 9:30 a.m.

End time: Sat 04 Jun 2011, 10 p.m.

Sheffield Social PPUK Meet (03)

Another social meeting will be held at the Red Deer on the 7th Of June (after Peace in the Park), and in a continued effort to get things moving in Sheffield, we have organised a third meet up of Sheffield based (well anyone who can be active in Sheffield) PPUK members over a pint.

I will be there from 19:00 until late and, if you don't know me, should be identifiable to some degree by me looking tired and being glued to a phone. Feel free to call me (phone number is on my user page) first though if you want.

If you want to come please do add your name to the list on the wiki page, preferably with a link to your user page (if you have one) or email me.

The meet will take place at the Red Deer in town and has no agenda, or formal aims so if you are available, please do drop in, even if it is just to say hello.

If you haven't been to the Red Deer, (and I'll admit I haven't for a while..) it's a good pub with a decent range of beers, IIRC they do coffee too, food (if you feel the need) and take cards...

If you plan to attend or even if you can't, it would be great to hear from anyone in the area, either by email or by adding yourself as active on the Sheffield pages.

Location: Sheffield, Yorkshire and Humberside

Start time: Tue 07 Jun 2011, 7 p.m.

End time: Tue 07 Jun 2011, 10 p.m.

Copyright in the Digital Age: Will the Government Implement the Hargreaves Recommendations?

Last year, David Cameron appointed Professor Ian Hargreaves to lead a review of how Britain's intellectual property laws affect growth and innovation in the digital age. After months of research and meetings with stakeholders from a wide range of constituencies, Professor Hargreaves published his report on 18 May 2011. The report makes 10 high-level recommendations for transforming the IP system - and in particular the copyright regime - into one fit for the 21st century.

Now it's the government's turn to decide whether to implement Professor Hargreaves's recommendations. Ministers are due to provide their reaction to the report in the next few weeks, so we have a short window for people interested in the outcome to voice their views. This event is intended to give members of the tech community the chance to do just that.

The discussion will be led by a fantastic panel including:

Stefan Glaenzer (Partner, Passion Capital, and founder of White Bear Yard)

Professor Ian Hargreaves (Professor of Digital Economy, Cardiff University, and head of the Independent Review of IP and Growth)

Eric Joyce MP (Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Digital Economy)

Lord Lucas (Conservative peer)

Nico Perez (Co-Founder of Mixcloud)

We invite you to come along and hear their thoughts, voice your own and make your contribution to the conversation on this important issue. The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm (note that's BST, even though Eventbrite insists on doing GMT): the main discussion will run from 7:30 to 8:30, with networking and socialising before and after. Food and drinks will be provided. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Location: London, London

Start time: Thu 23 Jun 2011, 7:30 p.m.

End time: Thu 23 Jun 2011, 8:30 p.m.

Remix: Panel on Creativity and Innovation

Panel discussion on creativity and innovation.

Panelists: Loz Kaye - Leader Pirate Party UK, Gordon Synn – Head of Content Acquisitions, Principal Consultant at SeeSaw, Andrew Piper – Group Creative Director at Clear – M&C Saatchi, Andy Dobson – Digitonal / AGT Rave Cru, creative technology at BSkyB.

Does free access to user-generated content and ideas make copying a viable innovation strategy? Re-blogging, remakes and mash-ups produce creative remixes but is this innovation? Might we be living in the age of repeats and repurposing, with the constant reuse of ideas leading to an innovation stalemate?

This event will bring together remixers from different fields to debate what it takes to be innovative in industries fueled by creativity.
