Hello, my name is Laila and i'm a 18 year old student who will be going to university next year (or rather later on this year). I will hopefully be studying International relations and Politics.
The internet should and must be protected from interference, it's importance has grown over the last decade.
I have been interested in the pirate party for ages and have been observing Sweden's success and hope to see it duplicated across Europe.

Oh, I suppose I should introduce myself at some point.

I'm James. I'm based in northwest Essex (Saffron Walden constituency), and I'm 24 and employed full time. I have a complete lack of artistic talent, but I spent over two years working in the music industry as a sound tech, running various small events every week.

Hi, I'm Dan and I'm 18 years old. I was a network administrator and technician for a school in Cornwall, and am now waiting to go to university to study computer science. My main hobbies are building PC's, reverse engineering, coding, and general nerd stuff.

Hardcore nerd, anyway.

Finally! A political party with views that pretty much match mine! Copyright laws do of course interest me greatly - in my opinion the whole system is fundamentally flawed and seems to be clinging to old-fashioned ideologies which have no place in the 21st century. However, I find the trend of infringement of privacy to be a lot more emotive for me. Naked scanners, CCTV, the database nation - NO.

My dogma is '1984 is not a manual', and that pretty much sums me up.

Hi, My name is Steve, I am 34 years old and i run a website that links to videos hosted on video streaming sites. These videos are mostly regarded as copyright infringement regardless of a maintained DMCA. And regardless of the FACT that you cannot watch them legally online anyway. I earn a meager wage through advertising (less than a part time wage). So it was inevitable that I would come here eventually.

I have come here to learn more about the pirate party as all the main parties in this country do not want me to run my website if they have their way.

I also would like to volunteer myself to help in anyway to boost members numbers here. Not really sure how I could do that, hell I would even be willing to post leaflets if it helps!

Aha, an introductions thread. Should have posted here first.

I'm Stuart. I've been interested in copyright law and how it affects society for some time. I work for Canonical, a software company building open source software, I'm a podcaster (one of our radio shows was actually on the growth of the Pirate Party, hence my initial interest), and (perhaps unusually) I've mellowed on my attitudes to copyright in the last few years. I used to be the hardest of the hardliners -- everything should be free, make money from gigs, your book will sell even if it's Creative Commons licenced, etc -- but my view is more nuanced now than it was. What I'm hoping is that there is a group of people which can be large enough to have a voice in the debate, and sensible enough that it can strike a balance between abolition and perpetuity in copyright law rather than veering to one extreme. I'm hoping the Pirate Party in the UK can be that group, and so I thought I'd hang out here for a while and see if I'm right about that. :-)

Hello all,

I'm Brodie, I'm 29 years old and I'm from Glasgow, Scotland.

I saw on the news that the Digital Economy Bill had passed the Lords, so I thought it was about high time I signed up here. Hopefully the ever-increasing numbers will show the Government that we're not all going to stand by slack-jawed while they run roughshod over internet users.

I guess I should do this too, just to round out the completeness.

My name is Andrew Norton, and I currently live in the US.

Many of the older members will know me, but for those that don't...
I was born in Liverpool, 30 years ago, and moved to the US 7 years ago. I was the chairman of the US Pirate Party for 15 months, followed by running Pirate Party International for 9 months after that. I stepped down from that position last summer to concentrate on my book (on p2p/copyright) and research.
I occasionally do research work for TorrentFreak (and moderate their comments) and I used to work, a decade or so ago, as a copyright enforcer for a small record company (dealing mainly in small-scale commercial infringement)
Politically, I've worked on campaigns for the Liberal party in the late 90s, and I've also been a member of both the Conservative party and the OMRLP. I also have some political contacts still - one school friend is married to a LibDem MP, and another is running as a Tory MP this election (he's already on the council). Stateside, I have worked mostly with the Libertarians, aside from the US party.

I produce analysis on sales and box office figures on my blog - I'm focusing on US box office figures over the last 20 years right now. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, either here, or on IRC, where I can usually be found.

OHAI~

I'm Graham. I'm 22, unemployed, and spend all day listening to music, lurking on IRC, sleeping or watching anime.

That's about it.
We're the same. Nuisances with nowhere to go.
