I'm rather uncomfortable attempting to give a coherent introduction online, hence it taking me a while to get around to.
My name is Sarah and I've become involved with the Pirate Party over the last couple of months because I finally decided that things were getting bad enough that, despite a lifelong disinterest in politics (whoever you vote for, politicians get in), it was time I paid attention and stood up for my beliefs.
I'm mainly still in the 'paying attention' phase of this plan, and as such, have beliefs that are more general than specific. ("Civil Liberties = Good" sums it up pretty well.) As well as a general growing unease with civil liberties being purposefully eroded, one of the things that inspired me to actually get involved with this party was watching the Ted Talk by Rick Falkvinge.
I have very little technical know-how, but I have enthusiasm and a willingness to help organise. Hopefully I can be of use?
I've met several of the Pirates from Edinburgh and Glasgow, and I'm hoping that both cities moving towards having regular monthly meet-ups will help get things achieved. (Shameless Plug: Next Edinburgh meet-up is in the Regent Bar on Wednesday 4th July.)

Welcome Sarah!

Great to hear how you've become involved already, and I hope giving your introduction wasn't as uncomfortable as you feared. If you have ideas for making things more comfortable so others will take the same steps please do let us know.

Many are at the same point as you, wanting to stand up and say enough is enough and that something needs to be done without being able to go into much more detail. So often we know right and wrong when we see it, but aren't able to articulate it in the abstract until presented with specific details. I think that's why it is as important to get more people involved with the policy process so that examples can be discussed to help us come up with a little more detail of what we stand for on wider issues.

Enthusiasm and willingness to help really do trump most other things. I hope we can put you to work and you stay just as enthusiastic and willing :D

And well done for the shameless plug ;)

Hey my names Dan. Im a uni student studying digital film games and animation in leeds I thought I would join here and see if I can make a difference. I dont think any sites should be banned and its getting out of hand with governments acting like dictatorships. Banning PB is as bad as China's firewall. There is no freedom on the internet now and it needs to change.

Hi Kit and welcome! If we don't fight them they will try to take away more and more of what we believe are our rights. Maybe we will always find a way to route around them, but that is not enough. We shouldn't rely on the law being stupid, hard to enforce, or easy to evade. The laws should reflect our individual rights, be less about corporations trampling over us, and it is great to see more and more people joining here every day to say so.

I hope many of you are prepared to get stuck in and to work to bring Pirate politics to those that have not yet heard of us, encourage your friends to know what we stand for and to join, campaign, and vote for us as and when they can.

Hi everyone.

I've just joined recently as i discovered thepiratebay was taken down by the BPI. To me this is a step too far and I'm not going to allow it.
On searching for ways around i discovered this site and felt it was my duty as a true citizen to help do something about this injustice of freedom. I will not stand idly by while the thin end of the wedge gets shoved in.

Thank you for having me

Hi Freedom!

Yes this is an active Party, though forum activity is sporadic at times. A quick look at http://www.pirateparty.org.uk/blog/ and http://www.pirateparty.org.uk/press/ will show you some of what we have been up to lately.

If you would like to get involved and know what you would like to do, then you can say here or if you can work out who's area of responsibility it is get in touch with them.

If you want to help but don't know how, drop an email to campaigns@pirateparty.org.uk letting us know what your skills and availability are - and that you want to be put to work!

Hi my name is Sam, I am 34 years old and have never voted - because all the main stream parties in this country are crooks and control freaks. I still cannot quite believe that I am now living in a country where you can be arrested for telling a policeman who is being an idiot to f*** off, where my ISP can tell me what I can and can not look at and where my daughter will be crippled with debt for life just to be educated to, what should be, a normal standard. I sometimes think that we should just join the three main parties together (LibLabCon) for all their differences, have they forgotten the tens of millions who died for Democracy? To give us this system they have taken and distorted, mis-represented, bastardised and desecrated for their own ends? And the most frustrating thing - who do you vote for to change things? That is why I am here.

Hi,

My name is Kieron and I live and work in London.

I come from an Irish background so from an early age I took an active interest in political corruption and propaganda.

Twenty years later I still feel the majority of our politicians are corrupt, the mainstream media is warped, and our foreign policy is immoral.

A new political party has to enter mainstream politics in order to change things. A new political party that embodies the true values of freedom and democracy. I think the Pirate Party has the potential to be that party, so I’ve joined in the hope that I can help out in that challenge.

Yeah, I should be able to make London meets now too.

I would suggest that it now doesn't make sense to have one until the Olympics are over though

That's possibly true, but it does depend on if we have a concentration in one area (Streatham/Brixton/Blaham/Clapham/Battersea/Victoria/Oval/Vauxhall etc) then it shouldn't make too much of a difference.
