The original post has now been updated (Thanks Phil) but just in case people do not spot it here is the current state of play with nominations set to close on 3rd of June

Andrew Lyons - Nomination Thread Here - Seconded by Harley Faggetter

Ed Geraghty - Nomination Thread Here - Seconded by Peter Brett

Sam Clark - Nomination Thread Here - Awaiting Seconding

Liam Dolman - Nomination Thread Here - Awaiting Seconding

There is still time for anyone else wishing to nominate themselves. If you would like to stand for the board please feel free to create a thread with your nomination and give a brief description about yourself and why you would like to stand (This will help give members an idea if they wish to second your nomination or not)

I'm standing.

Since I'm allowed to second up to two other candidates, I'd like to second Ed Geraghty and Liam Dolman. Actually, they've already been seconded, so I'll third them.

It seems all five of the candidates who came forward have been validly seconded, and will appear on the ballot.
(updated, I originally posted having not realised that was confirmed already in updated posts at the top).

Also, could you confirm what option will provided if any to vote for "none of the above" or "reopen nominations", and how that will be counted?

thanks very much

Dear Member,

The member vote for the 3 vacancies on the board of Governors will open at 18:00 this evening (17/06/11): https://www.pirateparty.org.uk/vote/72/

For this election we will be using the STV voting system. You may select candidates in order of preference rank; 1=1st choice, 2=2nd choice, etc, for as many as you wish to express a preference for. The order you rank candidates must be in sequence.

The vote will be carried out and counted using the OpenSTV software and the Electoral Reform Society 1997 guidelines.

There are 5 candidates for 3 positions. You may also choose to vote to reopen nominations. The vote will run for two weeks, until 18:00 on 01/07/2012.

Election monitors appointed by the board for this vote are Shaun Dyer - s.dyer@pirateparty.org.uk and Daniel Hertz - d.hertz@pirateparty.org.uk.

If you have any technical problems please contact webteam@pirateparty.org.uk. If you have any other questions, please advise the nominating officer (p.cooke@pirateparty.org.uk) or either of the election monitors, who will attempt to resolve any issues and answer any questions.

Regards,

Phil Cooke

With regard to the query above from JohnB:

The use of Reopen Nominations (RON) - this is the current position (this is scheduled for review by the Board):

Because the ERS97 procedure does not have a specific mechanism for dealing with RON, it shall be dealt with as if it were any other candidate, that is to say that if RON is deemed to be elected to the Board, then only one seat shall remain vacant, to be filled at a later date.

Do we know when the board is scheduled to review this? (I understand that it makes sense to wait for this election so the board is back to full strength)

This was discussed again briefly at last night's Board meeting and is something we wish to investigate with Phil Cooke's assistance.
There is a disjoint between easiest way to implement in our current confines versus the best way to implement. There are potential flaws with our current implementation - e.g. if there are surplus votes for RON the best solution would roll these into an automatic RON-2 - our current implementation doesn't do this. Fortunately there have not been surplus votes for RON in the past so this flaw has not manifested. A 'best' implementation may require time and effort from developers that is currently overstretched with higher priorities.

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me - I would also like to thank anyone who didn't for making their voice heard and exercising their right to vote.

If you were unwilling to vote for me for whatever reason, please feel free to drop me an email (or a PM) explaining why (or just to have a general rant!), in order that I can try and represent your interests on the Board - I don't bite!

I would also like to congratulate Phil and Andrew on their election and look forward to working with a full-strength Board.

And congratulations to you as well. Thanks, everyone who took part in the post. For those candidates who didn't win this time: my commiserations, there's still loads of stuff you can do for the party, and I'm sure you can look forward to long and successful careers as party activists.
