Project Postcard II: Rise of the Manifesto

Postby PeterBrett » Wed Mar 24, 2010 2:51 pm

Hi folks,

Now that the manifesto's been released, it's time for the return of Project Postcard, and it's time to put a new design together! In order to make things easier, we're going to keep the same general design for the back (with all the text), and simply change the words. But we need a new design for the front! Ideas?

The current reverse side text is:
THE WORLD IS CHANGING

Pirate Party UK understands that the law needs to change to match the realities of life in the 21st century.

What are our policies?

Reform copyright and patent law. We want to legalise non-commercial file sharing and reduce the excessive length of copyright protection, while ensuring that when creative works are sold, it's the artists who benefit, not monopoly rights holders. We want a patent system that doesn't stifle innovation or make life saving drugs so expensive that patients die.

End the excessive surveillance, profiling, tracking and monitoring of innocent people by Government and big businesses.

Ensure real freedom of speech and real freedom to enjoy and participate in our shared culture, by reforming libel law; as well as stopping companies from hiding their questionable activities.

Did You Know...
- The Government wants to punish accused copyright infringers without trial.
- Pharmaceutical patents restrict access to life-saving drugs, causing unnecessary deaths from treatable illness.
- Despite the ever-increasing number of CCTV cameras in Britain, they only impact 3% of all crime.
- It is illegal for you to put songs from a purchased CD onto your mp3 player.
- Libel law has been used to cover up the dumping of toxic waste.
- Despite claims that piracy is killing the industry, 2009 saw record high sales of music singles, and artists have received more revenue for their work.

To sum up, what we need is:
  1. An inspiring new design for the front.
  2. Some new/revised text for the reverse, which better reflects our manifesto.
I'd like to get a design finalised by this time next week, if we possibly can!

So apparently no-one's interested in helping with this...

Apricot, that's such a brilliant idea!! :D
Some suggestions: would it be possible to make the screenshot "fullscreen" if you put the logo on the back? Also, shouldn't it say "has THE power"?

prizefighter, I quite like the "Vote Pirate Party UK" bit, and think it would make a really cool sticker.. or even a banner.

I don't have it HTML atm however I'll sort it out and post it later. Do you want the whole website to just be the image?

Agreed, "VOTE PPUK" looks great, very sharp. Excellent on anything business card-sized.

Well it's the idea I appreciate most which I now want to run with.

Did you screenshot an existing page then manipulate it or build that entirely from scratch? If you give me an origonal source page, I'll just rip the the html from and go from there :)

Ooh nice spoof error. one thing that I think migght be a good change: The government has the power to block a site that "has been, is being or is likely to be used for or in connection with an activity that infringes copyright" (emphasis mine), so it's not just those sites who are "considered to be in violation"

I think it's just an SSL certificate failure page from IE...

I'd try and get the chome one, because that one looks nice :) and you can probably extract it from the source somewhere...

There's some html :D

I used a screen shot http://www.randallkent.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Reported-Unsafe-Website-Navigation-Blocked-Windows-Internet-Explorer.png and photoshopped it.
Its the "This website has been reported unsafe" message

I don't know whether its a bug with IE (because i was viewing locally) or my html code but on the left hand side their is a gap in the background. The width of the DIV is 100% so someone might wanna check that and see if they can fix it.
