Futurist organisation forms political party, holds talk

Postby borgs8472 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:53 pm

People who know me well, know I'm a futurist and transhumanist as well as a Pirate of course.

Now just 4 days ago the first pro transhumanist party was launched in Russia.

It appears the futurist organisation zero state has decided to do the same thing and launched a UK political party.

I've not done any transhumanist meetings for a while, but I'm going to go along to the launch meeting this Saturday.
The CONSENSUS is a newly-formed UK-based political party which seeks to harness the intelligence and compassion to be found among futurists and other subcultures to the design of a real, improved future, for us and our children. Drawing inspiration from the eight Principles of the Zero State movement, the CONSENSUS will encourage people to think about the possibilities open to society once again.

The CONSENSUS is the first party of its kind. We intend to reach out to other parties and groups who share similar views and goals. If we are successful, there will soon be a number of CONSENSUS parties at the national level around the world, all part of an organization known as the Consensus of Democratic Futurist Parties (CDFP). The UK CONSENSUS is already affiliated with an international futurist organization in the Zero State movement, and the seeds of multiple local political parties have been sown.

I will be going as a pirate party activist as well as interested person. :)

Anyone have contact details? I am still waiting for confirmation that I can legally accept bitcoin so if they have managed to confirm this it would be good to hear it off them

I imagine as they haven't registered yet (can't find it if they have) their membership fees by BTC probably hasn't been run by the EC. :/

would you not just had to audit them as assets since legally they are not recognised currency with a formal value? Also with that in mind and the fact it has a cut-off point is it a technically feasible idea to accept bitcoin? I am pro btc for most services but I don't like seeing fixed both £ and BTC for the same product due to the variability.

See if you can persuade them to join the Pirate Party. Futurist/transhumanist goals are more likely to be achievable though us than through another political vehicle.

I disagree that either them or us would benefit from a reciprocal endorsement.

I happen to agree with borgs on this one, they have specific aims and principles as do we and I welcome them to bring their voices to the political landscape

I don't think that our party should endorse them or the other way round. I do think that members of their party who agree with what we stand for might want to join us as well.

A very interesting meeting. I spoke with many Zero state / Consensus member as well as their leader, got a good idea about what they are about.

Will be putting various parties in touch with one another shortly.

... whatever else, it's a good indication that more people are turning away from old politics. The more voices calling for a radical overhaul of the system, the less radical it gets to the mainstream consciousness.

Do you want to share more detail on this? I'd be interested in hearing it.

I've sent a preliminary report to Campaigns asking for further direction and authorization to further the engagement between parties. I might be writing some reports or just allowing people to chat back and forth for a bit, will have to see.

[edit]

I've got the go ahead to put various parties in touch and to produce a public member facing report on Zero State and Consensus which I will now be working now.
