BT says a patent filed in the US in 1976 and granted in 1989 gives it ownership of hyperlink technology

Wow, that was impressively forward-thinking of them, it might be hard to find that much prior art on it.

Hyperlinks have nothing to do with the Web really, conceptually anyway. The original term popped up in 1965 and moved on from there.
