Access to the Members Area for foreign pirates (Please)

Postby DavidXanatos » Sat Feb 13, 2010 8:03 pm

Hi,

Since my e-Mail was ignored here an public request:

I'm a Pirate from Austria and I would like to be able to participate in discussions like in the "Core Policies" sub forum.
Could you please grant me access to the "Members Area" sub forum.
Since the PP movement is an international one, I believe its in our all interests to allow foreign Pirates access to the Political discussions.

Sincerely
David Xanatos

Hi

It's been decided with a great deal of finality for now that the member area is not going to get opened to the public, it's possible your request was misunderstood.

On the other hand, so long as you are labled correctly, I see no reason why you shouldn't have access. The question then becomes a method of validating who are official forign pirates. Tell me on the austrian pirate party forums, do you have official mechanisms to identify paid up members there? If so, please run me through them. I'll then compare an verified element e.g. email address from there to here and allow you access.

So please fill me in on that.

Party Members in the Austrian Forum have a Rang placed by the avatar image,
As image like Image and text saying their function in the party, for example:
"PPÖ-Mitglied" - PPÖ-Member
"Bundesvorstand" - National board Member
"Schatzmeister" - Treasurer
etc...
Not members does not have any rank displays
there is also a rank called "Sympathisant" -> "fellow traveler" that is given to people who have access to the not internal forum areas but have a free membership

My user there is: https://forum.piratenpartei.at/memberli ... file&u=101

I can't see the member list, I assume I have to register so I've done so. Currently awaiting the validation email.

What would be a good rank to have? Since you're the first person to request this, you can have input. 'Foreign Pirate' maybe? I don't want to do PPAT member as I'll have to keep making ranks, but maybe later. Any better ideas?

I'm currently going to run this past tom webteam leader, to make sure if I add you to a new usergroup you don't get voting access for instance. And I'm running this past the exec, I will assume no response is allowing this however, I have to allow a few days for a response though.

When set up, I think the validation process is best that you contact our 'embassy' there, e.g. drop me a pm on your forum, (Borgs8472), I will get the email notification, there then I can activate the user on our forum.

Ok thanks,

I think "Foreign Pirate" is ok, and as its not country specific its the least afford administrative side.

btw: the ranks of Individal members are shown also whe you just browse the threas, for example here: https://forum.piratenpartei.at/viewtopi ... =48&t=6167

This have been okayed by technical and the exec. We're going to use the title 'international pirate', rather than 'foreign'.

I still have to have a validation process in place I'm afraid as whilst your email is validated against the forum, I can't see your email on pp.at. I'll make an exception in this case, but I need to check a confirmed email from .at against here for the future, or via a forum pm as I said. I'm putting this into practice now.
