I'm Michael I would be the one banging on about currency design on Reddit, and how most of the ills of this world are just emergent behaviour from a badly designed monetary system. If anyone in the Manchester area or otherwise wants to butt heads about this issue and with the aim of implementing something an alternative, then contact me.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Paul I'm 29, married, a farther of 1, I'm a freelance Internet Marketer and I live in West Lothian Scotland. I've been interested in joining a political party for some time but could not bring myself to side with any of the major parties. I have had an interest in alternative media for the last 6 years however since becoming a dad a year ago my interest has grown and grown. I rely heavily on the internet to educate myself and I believe the internet is providing the frame work for a global awakening unlike anything we have seen before in human history. I want to help defend freedom of speech and I believe that the internet is the last remaining haven of true freedom of speech and this is why I have chosen to join the Pirate Party.

I decided to look into the joining the Party after watching a recent episode of the Max Kisier show where he suggested that the occupy movement align themselves with the party.

I wish to become an active member of the party and would be keen to meet other open minded people and find out how I can get more involved.

Paul

Welcome Paul :)

We've got a number of active members in Scotland and at the moment I know that they are looking at standing in one or more by-elections which are coming up. I'd suggest keeping a close eye on the forums here and see if you can get to one of the meetings that are held up there :)

I agree. If we can get some of their energy on our side, it could do well for us in the local elections next May.

Ok, so I tried to join last month, but got pinged by the forum a couple of times so went off in a strop for a month :D Let's see if it works better this time.

My name is Matt, I live in London, graduated with a most helpful degree in Latin and Ancient history this summer and am currently avoiding a career.

I first heard about the Pirate Party after the success in Berlin, and looking into them/you/us found some sense and ideas that agreed with my views on the Internet etc. (and every sane person's). I think transparency is the key to any new government, as you don't need a 'party' line when you can clearly state your reasons for doing something so that people can look at it and go, ah ok.

It would be good to meet up with other people round London (anyone down at Occupy at all?) and get involved however I can, though admittedly, I don't have much time until I go away for the winter (decided that things were getting too shitty in bankerland so working in the Alps instead. Maybe there will be lots there who I can flame/accidentally bump off the side of a mountain?)

Anyway, I'm hoping that when I return all the fun won't be over and I'm thinking the life of a freedom fighter wouldn't be bad at all. Or something.

So hello all, and I really want to make this party important and electable.

Hi Matt, welcome to the Party!

Some of us are meeting up to talk about next year's conference on Sunday 23rd 2pm at Fire Station pub right next to Waterloo train station. We have at least one person that I know about spending as much time as he can at the Occupy site.

 As you can see, I have fixed the rogue bits which were pinging your posts. Glad you came back after your strop (:D) and welcome to the party!

Hi, I'm Corvaxical.
50, live in Essex and have long hoped for major societal change within my lifetime.
I can't join the Occupiers as I have to work but I admire and support them tremendously and will get to sit with them for a day or so soon in London. When I can afford the train fare.
Would like to know the extent of mutual support between PPUK and the occupy protesters. Is there not a natural alignment of policies and demands? Somehow I feel there should be.
I'm a little uneasy at the thought of signing up for piracy. I don't have a cutlass but go on, tell me what to do ... this is my first time on deck, will someone show me the ropes?
Yours Aye!

Hi Corvaxical,

I suspect there is likely an overlap of policy between the two, but don't think one is a complete subset of the other.

There was some site redesign done fairly recently which added a lot of Pirate policy information, here is one page for example: http://www.pirateparty.org.uk/Civil_Liberties

If I had to sum up the Pirate Party in one word, I would choose the word freedom, as it seems to represent the main policy areas (freedom of expression, copyright/patent reform, privacy, government transparency) fairly well.

Hi All,

After a failed attempt to post here yesterday and a flurry of posts elsewhere, I feel I should introduce myself.

My name is Paul, I'm 40ish and have four children. I live on the south coast, near Havant. I work in IT security which I am enthusiastic about. Some would say that makes me a geek - I can't argue with that!

I have an interest in cryptography but in no way would I consider myself an expert. i enjoy the odd drink, watching films and riding bikes (with engines!)

I was drawn to the Pirate Party by what I consider to be the unfair corruption of scientific discovery which is being stifled by patents, particularly but not exclusively, in the medical field. This has taken a more ominous turn with the patent wars that are escalating over the latest mobile communication technology with the consumer paying the price with either feature-restricted devices or greatly increased prices.

I would like to see the Pirate Party progress with a more inclusive manifesto covering agenda items that the British public care about. I fear the current manifesto may cause the wider public to perceive the Pirate Party as a 'single issue' party.

Welcome Paul.

To address your concerns with regards to our manifesto, we're currently undergoing a policy review process. At the moment the NEC is organising working groups to expand on and improve policy suggestions we've had so far and we will be soon looking for contributions and input to those working groups. So in that regards, watch this space!

Azrael, thanks for the welcome!

Topperfalcon again, thanks for the welcome.
I look forward to seeing the discussion on the development of the manifesto and hopefully doing my small piece to drive it forward. I will have a scout around to read what has been suggested for policy improvement thus far.

Hey everyone!

My name is Florian, I'm a 20 years old student from Hamburg, northern Germany. I just started studying Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading and therefore will stay here for at least (!) 4 years. Maybe I'll stay in the UK for much longer, however I'll apply for British Citizenship.

I've seen the increasing popularity that the German Pirate Party enjoys, now even representing the citizens of Berlin in the state's parliament. And I would like to see the rise of the PPUK as well because it is the only party in the country that tries to tackle the issues of the 21st century.

I am a passionate debater and have already played a leading role [yeah, bring on the 3rd Reich jokes ;)] in several Model United Nations Conferences throughout Germany and the UK. I'm basically Pro-European, Pro-Eurozone and Anti-Bullshit. :)

Looking forward to all the future discussions and the advance of the Pirate Party,

Florian

Erm, Hai. Adam from the North West here. I've been watching the party quietly for a while, the recent SOPA drama has persuaded me to finally stop being quite so lazy and start doing something about the possible Orwellian fantasies of our self-proclaimed overlords.

I shall wander off to peruse the T-Shirts, now. :)

Postby Milkmiruku » Sat Dec 31, 2011 3:54 pm

Hello all, Milk here, Edinburgh resident.

I'm interested in what take PPUK has on various issues including aspects of participatory/direct democracy, online and off, and how best to foster residential community cohesion, i.e. encouraging schemes like EBCA or incentivising the building industry to focus on sustainable architecture, intentional communities and urban homesteading.

I'm also intrigued as to what methods the PPUK do or could use to affect change through activism and spreading the message, and what processes are used in party organisation. One example; I feel a trick has been missed as a statement on the Occupy movement seems to have been two months in the making and still not out. Edinburgh Council backed Occupy Edinburgh over a month ago. How are party statements formulated? I'm wondering if there is a time/energy bottleneck here? Are things like this not worked on collaboratively? If it is organised by a group, is it a select few, or open to any member? (I've a lot to input and grok yet, so apologies if there are obvious answers to these elsewhere; I just came to quickly post here before heading out for NYE).

Also, the logo image url on the wiki should be absolute not relative - it breaks for articles like this.

Anyway, have a happy time tonight if you're planning on it!
