PPUK Olympic Logo

Postby MonkeyJam » Sun Nov 13, 2011 4:09 am

Inspired by Stephen's desktop today, I tried to smarten the logo up. I think it is breaking Olympic Copyright law though

Given the very strong anti-free-speech laws surrounding the Olympics, maybe the Party should do a humourous protest against them? This could get us some media attention.

A protest sort of thing is on our conference 'London 2012' thoughts, for logos, t-shirts, etc.

Yes because "London 2012" is bizarrely one of the phrases they've copyrighted. (Or rather not copyrighted, the Olympics have special sui generis intellectual property monopoly rights for their event).

It's almost as if no one else is allowed to run an event in London in 2012.

I am not sophisticated enough to work in vector formats. Sorry. There is a larger size though?

... am I going to have to research the legality of this now?

Obviously there's a freedom of expression/art. 8 angle, and I'm not entirely sure how they could possibly think this law would be legal, but... that's not me saying "yes, go off and do this."

Just wondered, the five circles... they do represent the four parts of the UK, plus the international Pirate movement, right? And any similarity with any other event happening in London is purely coincidental, isn't it?

Yep, that's exactly it right there.

I mean, we couldn't possibly be infringing on any made up copyrights could we?

Actually one suggestion we've come up with is to colour the rings with the colours of different national PPs.

So purple (#572B85) for PPSe, orange (#FF8800) for PPDe, green (#009900) for PPFr, teal (#408C8E) for PPUK, and black for generic.... as below.

Yes PPFr seems to have a half green half orange scheme ... but orange is already on there :)

Of course, using this wouldn't make a great deal of sense unless we secure the PPI AGM too...

Which as we haven't agreed to bid for, and haven't put in a bid, is probably premature to think of. Despite this, I see no reason we can't promote our international links. It demonstrates that our ideas and intentions are international in scope, and that we have strong links to similar Parties worldwide. With one of the strong themes of this upcoming conference being to broaden interest in us, to draw in other stakeholders and interested people/entities from outside our membership, this logo seems quite apt :D

Well, it's up to Monkeyjam if he wants to organise a PPI AGM alongside as well now. :P

But I see what you mean, and it's a nice logo so it'd be a waste to not use it anyway...
