First London Meetup of 2012!

Postby dj_sudo » Sat Jan 28, 2012 8:11 am

Who fancies it? What kind of times can everyone make?

I am usually free on a Friday night?

Weekends have more contention, but we could potentially do a daytime thing?

How are the 10th/11th/12th looking for everyone?

Sadly, this is probably the only weekend in feb I'm not free :(

I'm around every evening and live and work fairly centrally - fridays/weekends are good for me!

I'll be around London on the 11th, but I'm not sure when I'll be free.

Just as a heads-up guys, there is an anti-ACTA protest on Saturday 11th of February.

Pirate Party UK's National Executive Committee voted in favour of supporting this action, and given that I'm in London and free that weekend I am going to do my best to make it. My suggestion therefore is that we make our meet-up coincide with this protest, after which we will attempt to make our way to the nearest pub.

Not really, but some of this has come backwards from PPI channels as well, so it's pretty much guaranteed to happen I think. Andy and Gav (I think) are supposed to be communicating with ORG, who are also endorsing this, but I haven't heard much from that side. I'm waiting on some direct contact from the event creator and I'll try and help organise through that channel. Whatever happens I'll keep people updated.

I might also ask for a push to mailing lists this weekend, as people outside London might want to come and take part.

It seems to be starting in Trafalgar Square, involving placards; I hope people attending are aware of this sort of thing...

I have notified the event page. Technically there's nothing stopping us provided we have the proper authorisation

Also, that bylaw doesn't come into effect until the end of February

I've alerted them to it regardless, I suppose it'll be helpful should the protest get postponed.

Latest from the Facebook page:
Stop ACTA wrote:12:00
You may join Amnesty International to 2pm @ Trafalgar Square BUT PLEASE NOTE that this is NOT part of the official ACTA protest.

14:00
This is the official start of the ACTA protest.
Join with the rest of ACTA group at UK music [British Music House, 25-27 Berners St, W1T 3LR] where we will be assembling smaller teams to distribute leaflets around Oxford Street. Shirts with STOP ACTA will be supplied to anyone who donates.

16:00
Gather at proposed venue (still in process) to conclude meeting, relax and further discuss how we can progress with our act.

Sadly, while I'll be in London all day, I'll be tied up (not literally, I hope) until about 4.30, so will miss most of the fun. Perhaps we could have some sort of meet-up after the protest dies down?

Given that the intention is to meet up at a venue for wash-up somewhere at 4:00, we can simply stay on there until you arrive.

Well, we can do, but there'll be some kind of meet-up after the event as well. I'm open for ideas.
