Unfortunately I don't really know what's happened to it since I dropped out, and the other guy who helped set it up changed uni. My experience is that a couple of enthusiastic students is enough to start a student group. There tends to be the support - compsci types, and anyone who torrents (naughty naughty) - from students to make it worthwhile

There are successful student groups in Huddersfield Uni (possibly on hiatus while the organiser is on a year abroad, not sure), and Dublin Uni (not UK, I know, still good source of inspiration)

What we should aim for is getting gtroups big enough so they are self-sustaining even once the organiser is no longer there. I'm sure this will happen, given time.

I think that's a luxury you have once you have a strong membership base. Your target Demographic is obvious so you really need to drive that. If you cannot engage the people it's easy to pick up for the party you have no chance or the people it's harder to draw in.

As it happens was talking to a retired chap yesterday who supports us and will donate money to us (he can't join because he's in the Green Party already)

Is that not allowed? I've recently joined PPUK as I support your (our? :-) objectives, but I like much of the what the Greens stand for too. PPUK only has policy covering a relatively small range of subjects. It doesn't (and probably shouldn't) state an opinion on global warming, or species extinction, as that's not its area of expertise. It clearly makes sense to be able to support, (including joining) more than one specific-issue party.

This thread has been interesting. I take on board what has been said about standing as a 'passive' candidate wherever you happen to be. But I'd be torn between Green and PPUK were I to get that enthused.

BTW I might be deemed an 'older chappie' as I'm 44, so arguably past the first flush of youth. That's the age of the 'BBC micro generation', who can be expected to have some clue.

Is that not allowed?

We don't disallow being a member of both, but it could be that the Green Party does. Or perhaps they don't but this gentleman believes they do ... or maybe he only wants to be a member of one political party.

The Green Party, Labour and SNP do not allow their members to belong to any other Political Organisation/Party
