Who wants rancidpunk to be an officer?

He absolutely should be, I agree with him completely on the CP matter and find the need for a debate disturbing .

That said, Eric makes some great points in this thread. Anyway, I think it is time we drop the CP issue - leave the law as it is (as it should be), and focus on acting professionally as Eric points out.

I think that the issue of his party membership needs to be resolved, and then an election should be held.

Simply re-instating him is pointless: he doesn't get any real validation of his position and we (as members) don't get the opportunity to evaluate how he's performed in his role as nominating officer so far.

Frankly, if he's resigned he needs to go through the full nomination and election process to get his position back, otherwise it's just drama and nonsense and I don't think it would be possible to rely on him sticking to his job in future.

Well, what's the defined duties of the nominating officer? I know there's the legal requirement for handling candidate nominations in elections, but presumably as a member of the NEC there's other duties as well?

I am in support of rancidpunk being re-elected in his role as nominations officer as it not connected to his political beliefs. However, i do think this should be a whole party decision, decided by election, giving others the oppurtunity to be nominated for the post. In orer to prevent this in the future, may i suggest opinion pieces should be posted in a section of the website where policy can be discussed and party members can express their views seperate to the blog.

I would have prefered it if he hadn't resigned. Now he has resigned, there is a vacancy, and given that this is an elected post, the best way to fill the vacancy would be an election.

Totally agree. It's not good for the stability and formation of this party and too much time has been taken up discussing this when energies should be spent elsewhere. He has not withdrawn his resignation, so I support opening nominations. And also to resolving any issues arising from this affair so that officers have better guidelines. I would personally like rancidpunk to remain active in the party as he is evidently hard-working, talented and principled, if not as nominating officer then in some other capacity. But I don't see the need for anyone to continue to request that he is active. It's entirely his choice whether he thinks this is a project that he wants to abandon on the basis of a couple of rude comments.

Thanks for your comments, I'm grateful that you think I have been of some use to us and I have no intention of abandoning this ship, but I have never been an officer in anything before, nor have I felt the desire to be anything but the crew. At least now that I have given it a try, I understand the restraints felt by people who speak for more than themselves, perhaps it's why I hate politicians who never give us a straight answer! That's just not me, I can't resist opening my big gob sometimes, so I am used to rude comments and adverse reaction. Second guessing myself is just tedious, I stood up for myself and the party without realising that I wasn't speaking for all, fair enough. Wrong man for the job then and I'm certainly not going to mess up our party or become a politician and not say what I feel. Unlike those cling-ons in Westminster who got caught with their hands in the till, I might add, going completely off top in the blink of an eye 'cos BBC News is on in the background.
