Hi, I'm Rob, 28 year old from South Yorkshire. After following the pirate bay 'trial' and f5'ing the pp international forum hoping that someone would post in the uk section, here I am.

As with others on here I'm intrested in reformation of the copyright laws to be fairer for the creators of content, but also the need for a more transparent government, most notably expenses reform.

Hi everyone,

I'm Dave, a 24yo from Berkshire/Oxfordshire. I work in finance and used to be in mergers and acquisitions.

I believe for that too long the British Government has been looking after the interests of large corporations rather than the general public and now is the time to take a stand. It is a sad day when Technological Innovation and the people's right to live in a truly free society is sacrificed at the expense of large corporations' revenue that has been brought about by inefficient business models and an inherent inability (even unwillingness) to adapt to emerging technology. If a business model does not fit within society, change the business model, not society!

I'm Beckie,
Married to rancidpunk, my political opinions and beliefs are very similar to my husbands. I think our right to privacy is slowly being taken away day by day , i wish to stand up for my right to not have my personal data available to the highest bidder. I therefore wish to join ppuk.

Hi, I'm Paul - I'm a 27 yo graduate working at my local University (Software developer, and part-time lecturer of computing). I'm a long-time follower of the Swedish Pirate Party, and have kept my eye out for a UK based organization, so many thanks. Similar views to others here; privacy, Big Brother, RIP Act, etc. Thankful Wacky Jacqui has finally figured out where the door is, fearful of what Johnson will be doing next.

Looking to help in any way I can to get the great traditions and values of the Pirate Party up and running in the UK.

Hello I'm Gavin.
I'm a 17 (18 on Friday) year old student going to Derby university for Computer Forensics and Security in September.

I'm still indecisive about copyright being bad in all situations. I have been won over by Stallman with his discussions on software patents but in terms of some industries I can see certain benefits. However we need that discussion and the Pirate Party can be a valued agent of discussion. I do however believe fully in the ideas of privacy and rights of the citizen against monopolies and patent abuses.

So I'm not completely won over but I want to help.

Hello everybody, my names craig and Im a physics graduate from the university of surrey but I live in cambridge.

I find the current system of laws relating to copyright fails to take into account the ways in which technology has changed over the last 20 years mainly due to old copyright laws and large corporations which seem unable to adapt there business models.

I think it has to be an industry change as well if we want a strong music inductry businesses have to find a way of adapting there business models to take advantage of file sharing. This seems to be something that is missing from the policies that I've seen on your site so far (maybe I missed it).

If I can help in any way I'd be more than willing, this is a cause I feel strongly about as Im sure you've guessed by the fact Im here and signed up. :D

Hi

My name is Tancred and I live in Edinburgh. I work in IT and support the aims of the Pirate Party. Copyright needs to be reformed, and our right to privacy needs to be protected.

I also believe very strongly in electoral reforms for both Commons and the Lords and feel the Commons should be elected from multi-member constituency using STV. makemyvotecount.org.uk & electoral-reform.org.uk have more information for those interested :)

Hi I'm James and I'm a 19 year old student from Bradford studying biomedical science at Northumbria University.
I believe that file sharing I acceptable as i feel that it would reduce the cost of software music and films as the corporations gain too much and the artist do not earn enough. I believe it is acceptable as well after recently reading a report suggesting that file sharers are 10 times more likely to purchase media than non file sharers.

Hello,

I'm Andrew, I'm 17 (18 this October). I'm studying computing, law and politics in Hampshire. I believe extremely strongly in social responsibly and welfare, freedom of information, civil liberties and human rights, net neutrality, increasing scientific funding (in particular: medical, telecommunications, space) transparency of the 3 branches of government, reformation and reparation of criminals rather than retribution, pro-EU, neutral on Euro. If all goes to plan, from autumn 2010 I will be attending a welsh university (Aberystwyth or Glamorgan), and would be interested in representing PPUK in Wales.

I look forward to seeing the growth of this party, and its sister parties across the world.

Hi,

I'm Oliver; currently I am studying Computer Science at Aberystwyth University in my second year. When I’m not at university I currently live in Newport, Shropshire.

As a future software developer I feel that copyright reform is a key issue for me, an issue that will undoubtedly directly affect me in my future. I have seen how badly our currently leadership and legal system handles technological advances and the issues surrounding them and feel that something needs to be done.

I have been a close follower of both copyright and p2p issues for several years now, following the Swedish pirate parties progress quite closely. Knowing how much of an issue that both file sharing and copyright is becoming for voters in the 18-21 range; I felt frustrated when I came to vote this time round and the only option for me realistically was the green party, who do not push the issue as much as we would all hope for.

I want to help raise awareness of the issue, and help to secure a UK presence for the pirate party.

Hi I'm Alex (obvious? not to some) just out of college with doubtful passes, looking to go into programming if I can get a university to let me anywhere near them. Why I'm here? Because I agree with the policies, why else? Before I forget apart from being an out of work bum, I am sometimes called a musician by drunkards and ne'er-do-wells and if I had the motivation I would of finished one of my four novels as well!

Hi, I'm John, a 24 year old Economics and Law graduate currently managing a bar in Central London.

While I feel I cannot support a total abolishment of copyright law, the Swedish Pirate Party's suggestion of 5 years commercial protection with no non-commercial protection would be acceptable. I do feel that the author of work should have temporary control of that work. The example I like to use on that case is that if JK Rowling writes Harry Pottery 8, then Penguin shouldn't be allowed to buy a single copy of the hardback, then use it to print their own run of soft back books, releasing them early and charging less than her own publisher due to the lack of royalty costs owed. However, at the same time if someone wants to lend that book to their friend, or scan it in and email them the file, then that's acceptable, as a profit isn't being made on the transaction so it's a non commercial use.

I think it is about time a law that was put into effect to stop rival presses stealing books and printing them royalty free is now being used to punish individuals. It's about time the government stopped spreading misinformation on the issue, calling copyright infringement "theft" despite the fact their own legal system disagrees with them on that definition. I also think it's time patent law was updated along side copyright law, so companies stop using a "register every idea we have, if Sony later have it too we can sue them" and rather only use the law to actually protect individual projects for a short period of time.

Hi,

I'm Alan. I'm 21, living in Paisley currently (which I hope to change soon!) and currently studying politics and economics at Glasgow. I've always been highly interested by copyright and the right to privacy, not to mention making our government far more open, democratic and transparent.

I've come on here because I'm highly enthused by the success of the Swedish Pirate Party, and would like to help replicate similar success here in Britain, if that's at all possible.
