Donation to the party
There are lots of ways to support the Pirate Party. One important way is to give money! In an ideal world, we could fight democratic elections without needing lots of cash. In the real world, the more money we have, the more we can campaign and the more seats we can fight. If you haven't already you can become a Pirate Party UK member, you can donate money that way if the terms and conditions are met.
Here are some examples of where your money would go:
- £15 = The cost of 1000 campaign leaflets
- £100 = 250 letters sent to undecided voters
- £500 = The deposit needed to fight for one parliamentary constituency in a general election or by-election
Right now, we are building the fighting fund for the next general election. The more money we have, the more seats we can contest. We would need £325,000 just to pay the deposits to fight every seat in the country. As we need to win 5% of the local vote to get a deposit back, we need to back our deposits with real campaigns, making sure that local people know who we are, know who our candidate is, and take us seriously.
The Pirate Party is doing everything to keep its running costs low, and ensure every possible penny is spent on campaigns. The challenge is huge. The Tories employ over a hundred full-time staff in their central office. Labour will spend tens of millions on the next general election. In the last general election, the Greens spent over £20,000 just on party political broadcasts. Even the BNP spends more than one hundred thousand pounds a year on running its central administration.
In addition to giving money, remember you can also support the party in lots of other ways: by giving time to perform admin tasks; by getting involved in canvassing and other campaigning; or by joining one of our groups of volunteers with specialist skills, like lawyers and journalists.
