How We Work
Pirate Party UK is a democratic party built upon grassroots support and the work of volunteers. As such we rely on the support and input of our members. All members have the right to elect those who administrate the party, vote on policy and constitutional amendments, and also ratify election candidates.
Ideas, promotional materials, policies, and projects often come directly from the members themselves, and you are encouraged to contribute in any way you can.
Operating a political party takes a lot of hard work, so we have elected administrators who handle the running of the party. Below is a brief overview of our structure, for more information about these bodies, click the links in the navigation bar.
The National Executive Committee (NEC)
The NEC is responsible for the day-to-day running and legal administration of the party. It consists of the Party Leader, Nominating Officer, Treasurer, Campaigns Manager, and Party Secretary. They are elected by members no less frequently than every 2 years.
The Board of Governors
The Board are a group of 12 elected Governors who are responsible for the party’s constitution, and other currently undefined governance responsibilities.
Regional Administrative Officers (RAOs)
RAOs are members responsible for organising member activity and meetings in their regions, and selecting candidates for elections. They are elected by members within their region.
Press Office
The Press Office is responsible for writing press releases, and handling media requests for interviews and statements. If you see an article about us, the Press Office is probably responsible.
