The UK Pirate Party are disappointed and concerned with the news today that Anne Muir, a 58-year-old axillary Nurse Ayr who is said to suffer from depression, has been handed what we believe to be a massively disproportionate sentence of 3 years probation for sharing music.

The Pirate Party UK was appalled to hear today of the conviction of 58 year-old auxiliary nurse Anne Muir in the Ayr Sheriff Court under section 107(1)(e) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act for alleged peer-to-peer file-sharing. This is the first criminal conviction for P2P file-sharing in Scotland.

The Pirate Party UK is disappointed with the result of the referendum on the adoption of the Alternative Vote.

The Pirate Party believes that this referendum was based more on fear, lies, and mud-slinging with a focus on a negative attitude and imaginary issues, rather than on facts, logic, reason or civilised debate. The manner in which it was contested was of a deplorable standard and a poor reflection on the current state of British politics which all involved should be ashamed of.

The Party fielded 8 candidates in 2 regions, polling at 581 in Glasgow and 850 in West of Scotland, for a total of 1431 for the 2011 Scottish Parliament Elections.

Graeme Lambert, who stood as the Pirate Party UK candidate for election to the Moorside ward in Bury in this year's local elections, was pleased to receive 3.62% of the votes cast — 119 of a total of 3286.
