3.1 Security of collected data

Should there be specific government-published methods (such as encryption methods) for maintaining the security of any database of personal information (as covered by the Data Protection Act)?

  1. Legally required level of security.
  2. Recommended level of security, with a legally enforced minimum level.
  3. Recommended minimum level.
  4. No government-issued recommendations or laws.
  5. More debate needed.

3.2 Punishments for breaches

Who should be held responsible for any breach or misuse of any such database?

  1. The relevant Data Controller (as defined by the Data Protection Act) with a minimum punishment (e.g. a fine or prison sentence).
  2. The relevant Data Controller (as defined by the Data Protection Act) with a maximum punishment.
  3. The individual directly responsible for the breach with a minimum punishment.
  4. The individual directly responsible for the breach with a maximum punishment.
  5. No punishment.
  6. More debate needed.
