The National Executive Committee (often shortened to NEC or exec) is the executive body of the Pirate Party UK, comprised of the elected officers and other members selected to join the committee.

Composition and procedure


The elected officers are the Leader, Treasurer, Campaigns Manager, Nominating Officer and Party Secretary. These officers are elected approximately every two years. The next elections are scheduled for January 2012.

The selected members are the IT Team Leader & Deputy Campaigns Officer.These committee members are unelected, having been appointed by an elected officer. They do not currently have a vote in regards to decision making, but may express their views and may be taken into account accordingly.

Decisions are made by a simple majority of committee members. If a vote is a tie, the leader has the casting vote.

Leader

The Leader heads the party's administration and represents the party to the media and electorate. The current Leader is Loz Kaye, having been elected to replace the first leader, Andrew Robinson, on Sun 26th September 2010.

Role and responsibilities

Nominating Officer

The Nominating Officer is responsible for providing information regarding upcoming elections to the NEC and nominating the party's ratified candidates. The Current Nominating Officer is Phil Cooke having been elected to replace John Barron who stood down in July 2011.

Party Secretary

As of 21st November 2012, the members of the Pirate Party UK voted to replace the role of Data Controller with that of Party Secretary. The post of Party Secretary was provisionally taken by Harley Faggetter as the serving Data Controller at that time. As of the NEC elections in January 2012, the new Party Secretary will formally take on their new role and responsibilities.

Data Controller

The Data Controller is required to determine the purposes for which and the manner in which any personal data collected by the party are, or are to be, processed. The first Data Controller was Miah Gregory, who was replaced by Harley Faggetter upon standing down in October 2011.

Minutes

NEC meetings are generally held weekly to discuss/handle issues arising and agree actions to move the goals of the party forward. The minutes of these meetings are published on the wiki.
