NEC Meeting 13th December 2010

Attendees: Loz Kaye, Peter Brett, Peter Liddell, Andrew Paliwoda, Andrew Tindall

1. Apologies: Miah Gregory, John Barron

2. Last week's minutes already approved.

3. Matters Arising -

   Nominations are now open.
   No Email has been sent to Scottish members encouraging them to apply.
   VM not yet purchased, and no response from Tom on Web Team Meeting.
   No way to buy conference tickets yet.
   Pete L says he has yet to receive concrete costs from Conference Team.
   Suggestion of appointing a Second Web Team Leader, and/or inviting Tom to NEC Meetings.
       Action: Pete L to contact Tom.
  

4. Upcoming Elections -

   Andrew Paliwoda will be sending an email out by Thursday to encorage more members to come forward as candidates.
   There have been 3 nominations for Scotland so far.
   Oldham East & Saddleworth By-Election likely to be on Februrary 3rd
   Loz has indicated his interest in running.
   Loz will talk to Jack and John regarding registration of candidates.
   Talk of Wales/London elections, lack of RAOs.
  

5. Free Student Membership -

   Discussion of plans for temporary free membership for students.
       Action:Pete L to publish blogpost tonight to advertise this, subject to final system checks.
  

6. Wikileaks Media Strategy

   Well Done to all involved in various aspects of wikileaks issue.
   Need to press on the fact we're a Party not just an "internet freedom organisation"
   Assange has bail hearing tomorrow, would be good to get a press release out - focusing on WL not JA.
   Loz will be in London at DEAPPG Event on Tuesday, several other members will also be present.
  

7. Resolve to open new Bank Account and agree account signatories.

   Motion: We Resolve to open a new Bank of Scotland Account for purposes of receving membersip fees.
       Aye: Loz Kaye, Peter Brett, Pete Liddell
       Nay: None
       Abstain: None
   Access: Peter Liddell, Peter Brett
  

8. Manifesto

   Need to drive forward with process of updating manifesto.
   Must still work towards February Deadline
  

9. AOB

   East Midlands, Greater London RAO nominations periods.
       Action: Loz will talk to John.
   E-mail from Stephen Ogden on several issues.
       Action: Andrew to respond re: Communications. Pete L has responded re: Long-Term Funding. Loz will also respond.
   Good week for party - millions around the world have heard our point of view.
   There has been a significant shift with the media now coming to us on civil liberties, not just filesharing.
