NEC meeting minutes 17th May 2010
Attendees
Andrew Robinson, Philip Hunt, John Barron, Peter Brett, Andrew Tindall, Diarmuid Clarke, Finlay Archibald, Peter Liddell, Miah Gregory
Summary
Start of NEC meeting
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Merchandising. Not much to say on this, but looking at some drinking glasses. No-one has come forward to take merchandising on.
Opening internal nominations.
We are opening nominations for a campaigns officer, regional administrative officers, and a board of Governors.
For now, we will allow people to hold more than one position, due to the size of the party. We want to change this as we expand, and review regularly, possibly on a case by case basis.
Some roles are incompatible or have a conflict of interest, eg. candidates and regional administrative officers, as the latter should be supporting the candidates in their area.
Suggestion that we open an 'applications' thread on the forums and ask who would be interested in standing as a candidate or as a regional administrative officer.
Action: John Barron will open appropriate threads on the forum for regional administrative officers.
Suggestion that we increase the nomination period for regional administrative officer elections and NEC officer elections to two weeks. This motion was passed by the NEC.
Another thread should be opened for campaigns officer. Perhaps later this evening.
Action: Andrew Tindall will organise this.
When sending emails which should only be for members, we need to make sure they really do get sent only to members. There is an option on the email form to do this.
Board of Governors. We need to start an open nominations period. Governors should be members in good standing, and should be seconded by another member in good standing.
Action: Andrew Robinson will write some text up for the forum thread and send this to Andrew Tindall who will set up the thread.
Re-iteration that the NEC can generally elect deputies without a membership approval vote, with an exception for people who would have access to the bank accounts etc.
We'll start talking about Scottish and Welsh elections once we have the regional administrative officers in place.
Local elections 2011. As standing for these is free, we should stand as many candidates in local elections as possible. We should also encourage prospective national candidates to stand in local elections.
Proposal for two Deputy Campaigns officers: Finlay Archibald and Andrew Tindall.
NEC approved these nominations.
Action: Miah will organise getting Diarmuid Clarke, Finlay Archibald and Andrew Tindall onto the officers mailing list.
Everyone encouraged to get mumble installed for next week; an email will be sent out next week to confirm whether we will be using this for the meeting.
