NEC meeting minutes 21st June 2010
Attendees
Andrew Tindall, Peter Liddell, Finlay Archibald, John Barron, Miah Gregory
Summary
Start of NEC meeting
Apologies: Peter Brett, Andrew Robinson
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Diarmuid Clarke has resigned from his post, due to time pressures. Graeme Lambert is going to hopefully help out with treasury matters.
Nothing to report on merchandising.
Devolved elections. Leaving this discussion until next week when more members of the NEC are available. Andrew Paliwoda should be brought into the call for this discussion.
With respect to local elections, we plan to stand candidates wherever possible. We are too late to field candidates in the July by-elections.
Board of Governors election. Voting software is ready, and Tom will deploy it shortly. John Barron would then like to run a short test vote to bed the system in and to allow members to see how it works/is counted/reported. Suggestion that candidates are sorted alphabetically by surname. John Barron hopes to get a test done by the weekend.
Discussion about freedom of speech and what should be done when members incite illegal activity, or link to infringing torrents on the forum.
Peter Liddell has looked into standing orders and they would bear no cost on the party to receive them, but there are some concerns over making bank account details publically available. Bank account allows up to 100 free direct debits/cheque pay ins.
Peter Liddell is going to ask Tom to implement a free membership tier with automatic downgrading from paid membership when it expires, paypal automatic recurring donations for membership fees, a membership form for payment by Cheque/Postal Order. Suggestion that free members should be sent an email annually to confirm their details are correct. Also suggestion that if we can flag email bounces automatically we could use this to follow up on incorrect members details. Peter Liddell will raise these with Tom too.
