Summary
Start of NEC meeting
Minutes of last meeting approved by those present.
Merchandising. Finlay Archibald would like to get hold of flags, banners etc for a street stall. Peter Liddell hopes to speak to Pava about shot glasses. Discussion postponed until next week
Forthcoming elections. Philip Hunt has been getting on with leafleting for his campaign; no news seems to be good news.
ICO - new address. ICO now renewed, and we can change the address/data controller details once the new address is confirmed.
Leadership election.
Proposals from the board of governors: -snip- The Board would like to recommend that the NEC take the following action with regard to the current leadership election.
(a) Delay voting until the 11th September (until the 25th September) to give time for organising and holding leadership debates.
(b) Officially ask the Board to appoint an independent election supervisor for the current election.
The Board is aware that this schedule will leave the Party without a Leader for a short time, but feels this would not be a significant issue as the rest of the NEC and Board will still be in place, and a temporary / deputy leader could be appointed to cover the gap.
The Board hopes to have a more rigorous procedure in place for any subsequent NEC elections.
This proposal is supported by 8 members of the Board and opposed by no members. -snip- Both proposals were unanimously agreed by the NEC.
Andrew Robinson noted that there are rules set by the electoral commission, which state that a party must have an official leader and treasurer at all times. He will contact the board of governors to let them know that both proposals were agreed, and that they should give consideration to the legal requirements and come back to the NEC with proposals as to how to best handle these.
Discussion on the recent forum activities.
Yorkshire and Humberside RAO. A couple of people have expressed interest in the role, and one of them has now put forward a formal nomination on their forum. John Barron would like to start an election for this. Action: John Barron will contact the board of governors to propose a timetable and process.
