NEC meeting minutes 31st May 2010

Attendees

Andrew Tindall, Andrew Robinson, Peter Brett, Finlay Archibald, John Barron, Philip Hunt, Miah Gregory, Andrew Paliwoda

Summary

Start of NEC meeting

Apologies: Peter Liddell, Diarmuid Clarke

Minutes of previous meeting approved.

Merchandising, Andrew Paliwoda has sourced some shot glasses. Suggestion that he speaks with the Swedes to see whether a mutually beneficial relationship can be organised.

Devolved elections, no news.

Internal election progress update.

Votes ready for regions should be good to go tomorrow. Tom has put changes in place to allow only members in a region to vote. Suggestion that some text is added to the notification that tells members that if they think they are in the wrong region, to contact John Barron.

Action: John Barron will organise these.

Not all regions have candidates, these will be held for future.

Pirate home / blog aggregator. Peter Brett has spoken to Eric Priezkalns. Doesn't look like the two ideas can be merged, so it was proposed that we go ahead with both.

Unconference. Eric Priezkalns would like to set up and fund the conference. It was agreed that he should be encouraged to go ahead with this.

Pirate camp is being looked into by Andrew Paliwoda on the Isle of Arran.

Long debate on the question of a separate Scottish Pirate Party and varying degrees of devolved control. Final decision that we'll continue with the current state of play, which is for candidates to define policies on local issues; this will simply be extended on a slightly wider basis across Scotland by agreement between candidates.

Member retention. We need to get direct debits, etc sorted out. This discussion will be taken to the officers mailing list with Peter Liddell and Diarmuid Clarke, but needs to be resolved urgently.

Member's welcome pack is being put together.

Action: Andrew Robinson will email a 'welcome to the party' letter to Andrew Tindall for inclusion in the pack.

Newsletters. Consensus that they're working well.

Universities' campaigning. Finlay is hoping to get party members to travel to universities around them. He hopes to write a 'how to' guide to setting up university clubs/societies and put it on the wiki this week. We need to put together freshers packs, fliers etc. Andrew Robinson noted that due to the time printing takes, we need to get the designs finalised soon.

Peter Brett suggested that Finlay put together a schedule for getting things sorted.

Printing suppliers. Andrew Robinson suggested that we look to get a 'national preferred supplier' (or suppliers, depending on the type of item being printed). Candidates should then be encouraged to go and find a better quote for fliers as part of their campaign.

Action: Andrew Robinson will talk to Diarmuid Clarke about this.

Ofcom consultation coming up, we need to keep our eyes on this.

NEC Officers passed on their thanks to Philip Hunt for his dedication over the last year, and voted unanimously to make him a hero of the Pirate Party.
