The National Executive Committee (often shortened to NEC) is the executive body of the Pirate Party UK, comprised of the elected officers and other members selected to join the committee.

Composition and procedure


The elected officers are the Leader, Treasurer, Campaigns Officer, Nominating Officer and Party Secretary. These officers are elected approximately every two years. The next elections are scheduled for January 2014.

The selected members are the IT Team Leader & Deputy Campaigns Officer.These committee members are unelected, having been appointed by an elected officer. They do not currently have a vote in regards to decision making, but may express their views and may be taken into account accordingly.

Decisions are made by a simple majority of committee members. If a vote is a tie, the leader has the casting vote.

Leader

The Leader heads the party's administration and represents the party to the media and electorate. The current Leader is Loz Kaye.

The Party Leader is required to complete specific Role and responsibilities

Treasurer

The Treasury is the financial office of Pirate Party UK and is responsible for the parties membership fees and campaign expenditure. The current Treasurer is Shaun Daley.

Campaigns Officer

The Campaigns Officer heads the party's campaigns team and is responsible for internal and external campaigns including conferences, fundraisers, demonstrations and political awareness. The current Campaigns Officer is Andy Halsall.

Nominating Officer

The Nominating Officer is responsible for providing information regarding upcoming elections to the NEC and nominating the party's ratified candidates. The Current Nominating Officer is Phil Cooke.

Party Secretary

As of 21st November 2012, the members of the Pirate Party UK voted to replace the role of Data Controller with that of Party Secretary. The Party Secretary still performs the role of Data Controller as required. The post of Party Secretary is currently filled by Leanne Ainsworth who as The Party Secretary is required to complete specific roles and responsibilities.

Minutes

NEC meetings are generally held weekly to discuss/handle issues arising and agree actions to move the goals of the party forward. The minutes of these meetings are published on the wiki.
