Party Leader Role and Responsibilities
Political
- The Leader is the main election candidate for the party.
- The Leader must stand in a General Election.
- The Leader will stand in other elections as appropriate.
- As lead candidate they will set aside adequate time for campaigning, canvassing and devote time to their constituency/ward and are:
- responsible for advising and supporting other party candidates on campaigning and political issues.
- responsible for responding to requests on political matters from party members.
- responsible for inspiring and reflecting the political direction of the party and movement as a whole.
- responsible for initiating updating the manifesto and developing policy, while policy ultimately is the responsibility of the party at large.
- The Leader communicates regularly with Campaigns to set political strategy.
External
- The Leader represents the party to the public at large and is:
- responsible for appearing in the media, responding to interview requests for TV, radio, press and online journalism.
- responsible speaking at debates, panel discussions and rallies.
- responsible for answering direct enquiries from the general public.
- responsible writing on party issues regularly for the party blog and other media.
- responsible for maintaining a visible public profile through whatever means appropriate, such as social media.
- Fosterin relations with other organizations as appropriate to further the party's political aims.
- responsible for overseeing the political strategy of the press team. The Party Leader is the manager of the Press Team Leader.
- The Leader liases other Pirate Party Leaders through Pirate Party International.
General
- Chairs NEC (National Executive Committee) meetings.
