You may have heard of the Pirate Party. Their info describes them as:

"Pirate Party is the political party of the digital age. We represent the changes demanded by technology that governments and industries are resisting with all their might. We want copyright and patent laws to be reformed to fit their purpose, and your privacy and freedom of speech to be upheld and protected."

It is part of a global political movement, founded in Sweden in 2006, now present in over 40 countries across 6 continents. Between them, they have dozens of seats on local councils around the world, and are represented by an MEP.

In the recent Scottish election, they got around 1400 votes, and in a local election at the Moorside ward in Bury, they got over 3.5% of the vote.

Anyway, a couple of us think it's about time there was an Oxford branch, so we have started to meet at the Four Candles on George Street, on the second Thursday of each month with the next meeting this Thursday, May 12th.

Thursday night is "Curry club" at JD Wetherspoons; a typical meeting goes like this:

19:30 to 20:00 meet up, get a drink, find a table
20:15, brief formal meeting, agenda varies
20:45 break to order curries or other food

followed by informal social meeting and general chat.

Look for Pirate Party t-shirt, and pirate party leaflets on the table.
