On the Manchester Pirate Party site we've reported the fire at the Clayton pharmaceutical plant and the damage following.
Here's what I've done so far-
Contacted the plant owners Carbogen Amcis about a statement on the fire and subsequent damage to put residents minds at risk. They gave me a "no comment", though assured me a director would phone back after the Easter holidays.
Walked the extent of the foam damage along the canal. This took a good 3/4 of an hour as it stretched from Beswick to Holt Town on Easter Monday. That covers 2 wards of the Manchester Central constituency.
Chasing up Carbogen Amcis and their parent company.
Asking Manchester council environmental servies about what procedures are in place to stop spillage in to the canals.
Contact the Canal and Rivers Trust to hear about their assessment of the damage.
I'll update on this post. For now I'll note that during the long weekedn no other parties or candidates seemed to be aware of a potential environmental disaster in the constituency...
