A speech I was going to use at a cancelled hustings

Sorry to disappoint you. As you can see, I’m an ordinary young man in ordinary clothes. You see the Pirate Party. It isn’t a joke party and I’m not a joke candidate, it is part of a substantial political movement. The pirate movement, supported by many around the world, aims for: open democracy, patent/copyright reform and the protection of privacy. Our sister party in Iceland has 10 seats in their parliament.

I take the pirate movements principals to mean simply the following: “Providing people with clear rights.”

Governments are made of people, they’re not magic, so they should operate in a manner that’s accessible to people. If a government is not accessible to people, then people cannot give informed consent to the government, a government that does not have informed consent is worse than no government at all.

Today we are subjected to the politics of fear. Fear deceives you of rationality and provokes instantaneous consent to reactionary policies that you’ll soon regret.

Theresa May: Stubborn and Reckless leadership

Morgan Hill's picture

When will the tabloids grow out of their public school desire to be controlled by a stern mistress inflicting pain on fellow citizens in the name of public order. Theresa May has shown herself to be stubborn in her misguided, uneducated, and morally bankrupt war on human rights, dignity, and fact. All the while, she is abusing her position to claim false legitimacy for her awful ideas, cruelly using recent horrific events to emotional manipulate the public.

Morgan's Mini Manifesto - Eddisbury GE2017

My name is Morgan. I live in Winsford (Cheshire) and have lived here most of my life.

I care about young people who can’t get onto the property ladder, because developers are flooding the market with family houses, I believe this needs to be addressed. I will push for a higher standard of housing stock with the best insulation, the best connectivity and access to green spaces. I will oppose new developments that are not primarily catering for first time buyers. I will also seek to close the loops holes in the help to by scheme that allow people already on the housing ladder to upgrade cheaply at the expense of house prices rising and farthing financial inequality. I will attempt to abolish leasehold for new builds and developments.

Drugs

Since the dawn of human existence we have been putting things into our bodies to see what they do, then repeating be cause we either liked, got addicted, or simply wanted a bigger sample size (yay science). Drugs aren’t even a human phenomenon, cats like catnip, and other animals have been chewing mildly hallucinogenic leaves for millennia. Somewhere in the trail of human history we developed the artificial idea of an acceptable drug, as science developed we were able to categorise them, and more recently the state has taken an interest in substance consumption.

I’m not by any means arguing that many drugs, used in many ways, aren’t harmful to health and society. My core position in that there will never be zero harm as a result of drugs, instead of targeting impractical zero drug futures, it would be more pragmatic, compassionate and successful to think about ways in which we can reduce the harm of drugs. We must recognise the complexity of a human diaspora. No single factor solely relates to the harm caused by drugs. There are no magic theories, that cover the individual and a massive population with equal accuracy, only suggestions that something might help.
