Solidarity, Not Suspicion

I live in Salford and work in Manchester. Some of my colleagues are Muslim. This morning some of them turned up late for work because of road closures due to the ongoing investigation into last night's bomb attack at the Arena. They were very quiet today; Azim was preoccupied with trying to keep the department running smoothly while Gaz was speculating about what might have been — he heard the bomb go off and was shaken by the blast as he passed by in a car on his way home from a night out. Later, when they began to talk about it, Azim was saying that as news continues to trickle in we'll all see how we're being affected since everyone knows someone who knows someone who was involved in some way. I am very proud of the part I played in helping to fight off ACTA in 2012. Indeed, I must confess to a certain amount of schadenfreude where the lamentation of our opponents is concerned. That said, CETA and TTIP are still on the radar and although they have been shot several times they are still on their feet. The main bones of contention for Pirates are the intellectual property chapters and ISDS.

You'd think that after decades of active participation in the labour market your just reward would be to be able to sit back and enjoy a leisurely retirement at age sixty or sixty five. Not any more. According to the preliminary findings of former CBI boss John Cridland, people joining the workforce today may find they are obliged to work till their mid-seventies — or later — in order to qualify for their state pension. Why is this happening and how did Mr. Cridland arrive at that conclusion? From April 2028 the state retirement age will be the figure set after the review is published next May.

How ISDS Killed A Domestic Solar Power Project In India

We've been assured over and over and over again that the ISDS provisions we fear in free trade agreements such as TPP, TTIP, and CETA are only to protect foreign investors from having assets unfairly seized and that this is a completely normal aspect of trade relations and there's nothing to worry our pretty little heads about.
