Pirate Party ready for UK General Election

Wednesday, 19 April, 2017 - 15:30

A snap General Election has just been confirmed in the House of Commons, with a vote of 522 to 13.

Sad news in St Athan

David Elston's picture

Sadly, Councillor David Street died during the night of Saturday 15th April.

Around a year ago, David Street was one of the councillors who sat on the council during my co-option. While I'll never know which way he voted, he was good enough to explain a bit about how the St Athan Community Council worked. I was quite surprised how that which was often described to me as a very simple, low level form of government, could have its own complications, especially with how particular the arrangements of the St Athan ward are. If it was not for those like Councillor Street, I am sure the transition from local activist to local councillor would have been far more difficult.

David Street was a very respected member of the council and there is no doubt in my mind he will be missed. I regret I was not able to know him better, and I wish his family well.

I hope new councillors that have been elected to fill the vacant roles on the council will continue to respectfully represent the community and in turn, sitting councillors should welcome them in as David Street did I.

We don't have a ship yet.

I joined here. I'm writing here. I'm helping write here. I don't know where this is going, just that it's here.

I'm here too now.

But where's the ship?

Let's build a ship. Together.

The Pirate Party was founded on a set of core principles, with a goal of challenging conventional politics and protecting the people's rights.

The party has come an incredibly long way since its start in 2009, relying solely on the help of the community that believes this is the way forward, and unlike many other minor parties, we are still growing stronger.

Along with crowdsourcing its policies, the party has relied on small-scale donations, in stark contrast to larger parties that have accepted money from questionable sources and wealthy benefactors.

Pirates call for shipmates to challenge May

Tuesday, 18 April, 2017 - 12:30

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has declared her intention to call a snap General Election to be held on the 8th June of this year.

Pirate Party Leader and prospective Vale of Glamorgan candidate David Elston said:

Pirates condemn "Concentration Camps" in Chechnya

Wednesday, 12 April, 2017 - 17:30

Amongst the many political issues that survive today, the rights of minorities are still, sadly, a contentious issue around the world. It has been reported by several news organisations, that gay men are being forced into and tortured in what some have termed 'concentration camps'.

Local Elections Leaders Update

David Elston's picture

While we congratulate our Finnish friends of Piraattipuolue on successfully getting not one but two Pirates elected in the municipal elections, one in Helsinki and one in Jyväskylä we remain hopeful that our local communities here will vote for the new, open and trust-restoring politics that Pirates can offer.

In the last election cycle we were heavily focused on the disastrous IP Act and DE Bill that the Conservatives were pushing into law, helped by Labour. We saw Pirates campaign nationally to bring awareness to this injustice and publish information on how to protect ourselves from these invasive and disproportionate new powers.

Pirates Standing for Local Government!

Monday, 10 April, 2017 - 13:00

Having successfully submitted the required nomination forms the Pirate Party can confirm that we have three candidates standing for election in this local election cycle.

Local Pirate Party candidates have already begun dropping leaflets through doors in the Vale of Glamorgan and Hampshire.

Acting Party Leader David A Elston is standing for the St Athan Ward on Vale of Glamorgan, and is also looking to be elected to the Community Council seat to which he was co-opted last year.
