Election Notifications

IMPORTANT: Nominations period extended - new NEC urgently needed

Dear Pirates,

As there were no nominations for any of the NEC posts, the nominations period has been extended indefinitely until nominations are received.

The current NEC will remain provisionally in post until the conclusion of the election, unless they choose to resign. I will be resigning as Nominating Officer on 19th December, though I will continue to run this election until a new Nominating Officer is in place.

Please, please consider putting your name forward for an NEC position. It's hard to overstate the seriousness of the current situation. Without an NEC, the party is essentially unable to carry on its day-to-day activities, which include standing for elections and advocating Pirate policies at a national level.

The forum thread for the election is here. The election itself can be found here.

Best wishes,

 - George

Seeking Members: Board of Governors, and the NEC

Things are always in a weird way after a General Election here in the UK, and it really goes without saying that this definitely applies right now. But things must go on as normal, and it is with that that I continue, as the Pirate Party UK Nominations Officer, uphold my pirately duties.

On the voting for the 2 Amendments to the Party Constitution, the results are as follows:

Amendment 1 (Change Govs from 12 to 9): 22 Votes, 21 Yes, 1 No
Amendment 2 (Remove No Confidence Paragraph): 22 Votes, 19 Yes, 3 No

These amendments will duly be made to the official Party Constitution.

Thanks, and do please continue to support the party - come and chat to us on Discord, follow us on Twitter, Like us on Facebook and generally get involved and help us move the party forward.

Internal Elections - Get Voting!

Ahoy there,

Following the contested election for the position of Deputy Leader last month, Jason Winstanley wasn't deterred and was successfully nominated for the Nominations Officer position which was still vacant. Given the lack of other nominations voting for this position will open at 10pm this evening (Monday 27th Feb) for a week.

There are 2 candidates - Jason and RON (Re-Open Nominations). As usual, if you have any question for Jason then please get in touch on the Community forum, or on our Discord chat.

The Board and NEC have also taken the time to review the Party Constitution, and have 2 Amendments which they are putting to a Member Vote as follows:

Amendment 1:
Section 8., Paragraph 1.
REPLACE "The Board of Governors shall consist of up to 12 Governors." with "The Board of Governors shall consist of up to 9 Governors."

Amendment 2:
Section 10, Paragraph 3
REMOVE the entire paragraph.
"Additionally a vote of no confidence in a member of the NEC will be triggered when over 50% of the voting NEC members make their desire for a vote of no confidence known to the Board."
(Note: it is common in such cases to NOT renumber subsequent paragraphs in orderto avoid issues with cross-references.)

Both of these amendments are independent from one another and again voting opens at 10pm this evening, and will close at 10pm next week (Monday 6th March)

2017 - NEC Election

Ahoy Pirates,

Following the NEC election process at the end of 2015 which attracted no candidates, the party has had no members of the NEC and has been being run by the Board of Governors. Given the lack of candidates, the NEC Elections were perpetually open for people to stand should they wish and we have now had people indicate interest in formally standing for the positions of Deputy Leader and Secretary.

As such, we are looking to run a formal election process for these positions and nominations are now open for these 2 positions from now until 23:55pm on the 19th January. There will then be a 2 week period during which the Party membership can vote. Given that the other positions are technically open as well - if you get in touch with the party (through any of the usual channels - email, Discord or the community forum) we can formally open them up for nomination as well.

You can read about the positions and what is involved here: https://www.pirateparty.org.uk/nominations/so-you-want-stand

You can nominate or second someone here: https://pirateparty.org.uk/election/2017-nec-election

Once the Nominations period is completed, we will run a Vote process for all those positions which have attracted Nominations, and during this time please ask questions of those who have put themselves forward (on Discord - https://discordapp.com/invite/ZtPYHHw, or on the community forum https://community.pirateparty.org.uk/).

Kind Regards,

Deputy Leader election cancellation

Dear Pirates,

David Elston has withdrawn his candidacy for the Deputy Leader election, and so the ongoing election has been terminated.

If you're interested in standing for this or any other vacant position, please contact my successor at nominations@pirateparty.org.uk.

Best wishes,

 - George
