A snap General Election has just been confirmed in the House of Commons, with a vote of 522 to 13.
Jason Winstanley, Pirate Party Nominations Officer, said:
"We are ready. We have already sourced many candidates for this election from across the country. We will be announcing candidate names and constituencies in the days that follow, and we encourage others to continue to bolster our ranks, get in touch and #BeThePirate in their area. If you think you could be a Pirate Party candidate in your constituency, contact the party via firstname.lastname@example.org
"Whilst it is clear the Government is using the sudden timing of this election for their own self-serving political gain, we will not miss the opportunity to challenge the established parties and influence the political landscape with a clear Pirate voice.
"Issues such as Free Speech, Privacy, and our other civil liberties must be protected, especially in such an uncertain time in UK politics."
The Pirate Party will challenge in seats all over the UK based on its seven guiding priniciples that revolve around access to information in decision-making, participatory democracy, freedom, and equality. Those principles are set out on the Party's web site at https://pirateparty.org.uk/policy
About Pirate Party UK
The Pirate Party in the UK is a fledgling political party. It has fielded a few candidates in European and National elections, but like most small parties it is significantly constrained by the UK electoral system. Despite this, the Pirate Party now has a representative in local government and is looking to build support from the grassroots.
