Press Release: Pirate Party announce first GE2017 Candidates

Wednesday, 26 April, 2017 - 14:15

As soon as the snap General Election was announced, Pirates rose from our ranks, willing to take the fight for free culture, evidence based policy, copyright and patent reform, and an end to warrantless blanket mass surveillance to Westminister.

David Elston, our Acting Leader and Lead Candidate for the Local Elections, standing in St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan will be furthering the campaign upwards, contesting the Vale of Glamorgan seat in South Wales against the incumbent Conservative Secretary for Wales.

Elston said:

Local Elections Leaders Update

Wednesday, 12 April, 2017 - 12:45

While we congratulate our Finnish friends of Piraattipuolue on successfully getting not one but two Pirates elected in the municipal elections, one in Helsinki and one in Jyväskylä we remain hopeful that our local communities here will vote for the new, open and trust-restoring politics that Pirates can offer.

Final Call for Local Election Candidates

Wednesday, 15 March, 2017 - 20:15

Hey all,

Across the UK local elections will soon be taking place. If you've ever considered a future in politics, this is the perfect place to start and flex your muscles.

Think Different, standing up for Sheffield.

It's General Election time and I'm looking forward to representing the Party and our ideas in Sheffield as the Party's PPC in Sheffield Central.

Five years ago when I helped Tim Dobson with his campaign in Manchester Gorton, I wasn't entirely sure he wasn't mad putting himself on the line for the Pirate Party. But I helped out and we learned a lot. I realised he was doing absolutely the right thing, providing a solution to the problems he wanted to solve.

2015 – Looking Forward

Loz Kaye's picture

The end of the year is often a time when people like to look back. Well, as usual I prefer to look forward. The new NEC members Will and George have made a good start with that, in a couple of weeks we've got the preparation for the General Election well under way, meeting electoral services to discuss the timetable. to planning campaigns, looking at designs.

One thing I'm worried about for 2015 is that people will miss out on their right to vote. The meetings we have had with people in charge of voter registration have indicated the changes in rules have let some people behind. This is particularly hitting young people and students. You can register online now at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote .

We've already got some candidates declared for the General Election, discussions underway with more- and of course we want to hear from any of you thinking of standing at a local or parliamentary level.
