Crowdfunder

That'll do Pirate, that'll do

David Elston's picture

After a successful Pre-Election Live Blog on donations raised prior to the GE2017 snap election and the GE2017 crowdfunder, we recieved a total of £1474.77. Whew!

In a time where we've endured a Tory Government, facing cuts, cuts and more cuts, that is no small figure.

...but before I ramble on... I'd like to thank George Walkden, Paul Chaplin, Neil Bird, Jon Nielsen, Jason Halsey, Sam Mills and a large number of people wishing to remain anonymous.

Oh and I raised my piggy bank for a little something to donate along the way too.

I was recently told that in other to take part in democracy, we have a "pay to play" system, where the big parties have massive donors or union backers that allow them to fight any fight without worrying about the bill but Pirates, despite the slander that we simply want stuff for free, dig deep when it comes to making sure our voices are heard.

Remember to smile

Today we charge to the polls and with every vote, we send a louder and louder message to Westminster; you will not take our human rights from us, our liberty is not up for grabs, and this culture belongs to us - we will decide how to shape it.

With our crowdsourced policies and a record ten candidates standing all over the country, we are becoming increasingly difficult for the established parties to ignore. This is your chance to show your ideas and your principles are what matters, not top-down policies birthed from a system that was made in simpler times that no longer represents the people.

As the wider public comes to know us, they definitely like what they see. A party that promotes honesty and trust, which is something really missing in politics right now.

Neither Labour or the Conservatives are interested in reforming the voting system. There isn’t any compassion from any party that perpetuates inequality. Both parties have a strong history of broken promises – and a last minute manifesto with new promises to break shouldn’t swing anyone’s vote.

Operation Doubloons is live!

Our 2017 snap general election crowdfunder has just gone live. Score yourself some Pirate booty, and help make politics a little bit better at the same time.

#WeArrSix and we thank you!

Our 2015 post-GE crowdfunder to refill the coffers is complete, and boy did we have a lot of support. You've collectively donated £1,436, showing that pirates never pay for anything is a myth worth smashing.

I really want to thank everyone who donated... in fact, I think I will.

Thank you Neil Bird, Cris Chesha, Simon Baldwin, Norman Witte III, Patrick Robertson, Andy Birchwood, Tom Collins, Chris Foote, Mick Sulley, Rebecca Ainsworth, Daniel Cale, Daniel Gilson, Paul Shaplin, Michael Johnsson, Philip Haworth, Thomas Horne, Trevor Johnson, Jack Allnutt, George Walkden, Liam Soutar, Adrian Farrell and a few others wishing to remain anonymous.

Oh and I dropped a few quid into the bucket too.

This money is more than just some cold hard cash thrown in our direction - it's what allows us to keep being a positive political force... and after the election results, positive politics seems needed now more than ever.

We'll need every penny we can get to push for a free culture. The Tories are back in Government and we have a hell of a war on our hands to protect our Internet and our right to privacy and expression.
