Press Release: Pirate Party announce first GE2017 Candidates

Wednesday, 26 April, 2017 - 14:15

As soon as the snap General Election was announced, Pirates rose from our ranks, willing to take the fight for free culture, evidence based policy, copyright and patent reform, and an end to warrantless blanket mass surveillance to Westminster.

David Elston, our Acting Leader and Lead Candidate for the Local Elections, standing in St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan will be furthering the campaign upwards, contesting the Vale of Glamorgan seat in South Wales against the incumbent Conservative Secretary for Wales.

Elston said:

Pirate Party storms the Icelandic elections!

Sunday, 30 October, 2016 - 08:30

Following the Icelandic elections on Saturday the Pirate Party are confirmed as having come 3rd in the popular vote and look to have won 9 seats in the Althingi (Icelandic Parliament), an astonishing gain of 6 on their previous result.

This is by far the best result for a Pirate Party to a National legislature since the foundation of the movement nearly 10 years ago and shows that there is a political void to be filled with a technologically savvy party willing to embrace the future rather than fear it.

Mark Chapman, Pirate Party Spokesperson, said:

Pirate Party UK wishes fair winds to Pirate Party Iceland!

Wednesday, 26 October, 2016 - 14:15

As Iceland heads to the polls on Saturday, they have the chance to make history and put Pirates into National Government for the first time ever.

Campaigning on traditional Pirate themes, including transparency in Government with the call for a new constitution, citizenship for Edward Snowden, and wide reaching reform of copyright, the success of the Icelandic Pirates, as well as the interest generated globally have shown there is a void to be filled with a new, current political party that embraces the future rather than fears it.

Pirate Party General Election Liveblog

It's election time again, which means time for another liveblog. I (Andrew Norton) will be covering the election, focusing on the 6 pirates up for election, and I'll be assisted in that by various pirates including Wendy Cockroft, and Stephen Ogden.

Those 6 lucky Pirate candidates are:

  • Loz Kaye (Leader) - Manchester Central
  • Sam Clark - Salford and Eccles
  • Cris Chesha - Manchester Gorton
  • David Elston - Bridgend
  • Andy Halsall - Sheffield Central
  • Mark Chapman - Vauxhall (London)

We'll start with some coverage of the campaigning, and stick right through until we know the results.
